MUSC 461 Music History, Ethnography, and Analysis This is an advanced course in the history, ethnography, and analysis of contemporary music. Students will study several music traditions, inquiring into their history, musical structure, and social significance. In addition, each student will undertake an original analysis and research project that involves working with a Chicago musician, tradition, or repertoire; conducting interviews; engaging in musical transcription and analysis; and coming to an understanding of how musical practice engages and responds to its social context.
